Hi Connie,
Are you using a Mac or PC? If so, try using
install.packages("ei",type="source",
repos="http://r.iq.harvard.edu")
Let me know if this doesn't work and we'll figure out another way.
EI for R implements the algorithm from Gary King's *A Solution to the
Ecological Inference Problem. *EI methods in Zelig will soon be identical
to ei for R, and will also include functionality for the RxC case, described
in Rosen, Jiang, King, and Tanner (2001). eiPack has methods for analyzing
RxC cases and ecological regression.
Hope that helps.
Best,
Molly

Hello,
I have two questions:
1. I am looking for some guidance on installing the EI version for R. I
have been able to install several related packages (i.e., the standalone
version of EzI, and eiPack from the CRAN site), but so far I have had no
luck with EI for R. I attempted both of the installation methods suggested
on the EI website. Unfortunately, our firewalls block installation EI from
within R. The direct download method doesn't work, either (I get messages
such as "Error in library(ei) : 'ei' is not a valid installed
package." Can
you suggest an alternative installation method? Do you plan to post EI on
the CRAN site?
2. What are the main differences in functionality between EI for R, eiPack,
and the EI-related functions in Zelig?
Thanks,
Connie
