Hello, all.
I have completed a very rough draft of a working paper that uses the CHOPIT
model (estimated in gllamm) to examine the possibility of what is referred
to in the education policy literature as the "rose-colored glasses"
effect--parents reporting higher levels of satisfaction with a school solely
or partially as a justification for the effort expended in the choice
process.
Using both a Bayesian hierarchical measurement model and the CHOPIT
approach, I find that the opposite effect is true: parents who choose are
actually tougher graders for their new school than they should be. The
paper, "Evaluating the Rose-Colored Glasses Effect: Do Parents Who Choose
Have a Biased Evaluation of their Child's School," is online at
www.sinc.sunysb.edu/Stu/roseglasses2.pdf. While I realize that the subject
matter is a bit outside the focus of most subscribers to this list, I would
welcome any comments on the implementation of the CHOPIT model. I should
point out that my next step is to estimate the full multiple measures model
(and improve the presentation of results) and that Jonathan Wand has been
extremely helpful in supporting the Anchors R code that I hope to switch to!
Thanks,
